On the Jewish holiday of Purim, we eat bake and eat traditional triangle cookies called “Hamentashen” which I was taught were triangle bc of the shape of a triangular hat of a character called Haman… but this is NOT the full story.

In fact, it’s because of an ancient Pagan tradition of making cakes in the shape of the female naked, as an offering to the goddess Ishtar – who became Esther in Judaism.

In ancient Persia, it was customary in the beginning of Spring to celebrate “Esthar Holiday” and bring cookies called “Esthar mouth” to the priests of the goddesses.

Descriptions from that period speak of cookies with lips like the lips of the female fairy, filled with poppy seeds symbolizing the man’s sperm.

In other words, on Purim we eat stuffed “pothim” cookies (aka punani).

How cool is that?!
